First and foremost, congratulations on your engagement! Finding a person who you want to walk through life with is beautiful and should be celebrated! One of my favorite ways to do this is through engagement photos; engagement photos allow you to capture your love, joy, and share it with others whether it's through your Save the Dates, part of your holiday cards, or to frame in your home. To help ensure your photoshoot is a success, here are 11 tips to help you get ready for your engagement session!
1. Choose Your Location:
You have two options: you can choose a location that holds sentimental value for both of you or simply a location you would love to have photos in! Some of my favorite Boston locations include Jamaica Pond, Beacon Hill, and the Boston Seaport. I challenge you to also get creative with it! Do you both share a love of books? Have your session in your favorite book store! Do you share a love of beer? Have your session in your favorite brewery! At the end of the day, it's most important to have photos that capture the love that feels most like you.
2. Choosing Your Outfits:
Coordinate your outfits to create a cohesive look. While you don't need to match exactly, choosing complementary colors and styles can enhance the overall aesthetic of your photos! If you're not sure what to wear, Pinterest is a great place to find inspiration and ideas.
3. Hair and Makeup:
Getting your hair and makeup professionally done can help ease any stress that may come with doing your own and help you feel even more confidence on the day of the photoshoot. You deserve to be pampered during this exciting time!
4. Time of Day:
Plan your photoshoot during the golden hour—early morning or late afternoon—when the natural light is soft and flattering. This will add a warm and romantic ambiance to your photos.
5. Communicate with Your Photographer:
Share your vision and expectations with your photographer -- creating a visual like a Pinterest board for your photoshoot is a great way to do this. Discuss specific shots you want and any concerns you may have. A clear line of communication will help your photographer capture your unique love story and provide you with photos that you truly love.
6. Be Open to Spontaneity:
While planning is crucial, leave room for spontaneity. Some of the most magical moments happen when you least expect them. Embrace the unexpected and trust your photographer's creativity!
7. Relax and Have Fun:
Relax and enjoy the experience. Let your love shine through naturally, and don't be afraid to express your affection for each other. Genuine moments often result in the most beautiful photos.
By following these 7 tips, you'll be well-prepared for your engagement photoshoot and increase the chances of capturing timeless and beautiful memories. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and celebrate your love as you embark on this exciting journey together.
